Kinja'd!!!

Finally fixed the intermittent creaking in my steering. I had no play in anything and it was loudest at the steering rack so I was worried it was that. After some exploratory dismantling I managed to work out it was only a track rod end!

It hasn’t worn significantly  so there was no play in it, but the boot had failed letting debris in and causing it to sieze up. Some swearing and cutting with an angle grinder later, I have a new one on and no more noise!

I get really annoyed because I hear c lunking in my suspension I don’t hear in mom’s and bro’s cars (they also have 2009-2010 Accents, albeit sedans, but the same suspension as my hatch) from the front and I’ve now taken it to three shops that say there is nothing wrong with it.....am I crazy? 0_o

But...shouldn’t the shops have noticed something by now? 0_o

I would check everything under the car , e ven if it’s not suspension. For example a loose exhaust could knock off the body and cause a similar noise.

They just welded a replacement exhaust hanger on awhile ago, so unless they missed something else, it can’t be that. It seems to ‘clunk’ worse over larger bumps at slow speed, or as I am accelerating while turning from a stop (say, away from a stop sign or out of a d riveway). Somebody told me sway bar links could cause that, but they were supposedly checked. I don’t have a jack other than the spare tire jack that came with the car, but I did reach under and wiggle them abit and they don’t SEEM worn...?

Difficult to say then to be honest. It took me some head scratching and dismantling just to work out the noise in my suspension. If the car seems fine I would probably leave it alone for now.

Funny enough I had the exact same problem on my Twingo about 2 years ago, and the same as you it was just a track rod end. But I think mine is starting to go on the other side now...

Also, a salute to a fellow UK Twingo 2 owner! there isn’t many of us.
